International conference

The Centro studi Giacomo Puccini and the Fondazione Giacomo Puccini have organized an international conference on Il trittico in the centennial year of the first Italian performance (Rome, Teatro Costanzi, 11 January 1919).  The conference, curated by David Rosen and Riccardo Pecci, will take place in Lucca, at the Cappella Guinigi, 4-6 July 2019.  The four sessions will feature eighteen papers delivered by scholars from the United States, China, Switzerland and Italy.

The conference will provide a valuable occasion for scholars and lovers of the work of Giacomo Puccini to illuminate the creation and reception of the three masterpieces of Puccini: from the genesis of the dramaturgy of the Trittico to the musical strategies deployed by the composer and to the specific ways that words and music interact; from the examination of the disposizioni sceniche (contemporary staging manuals) to the study of the stylistic coordinates of some 20th-century stagings.
